One of the most confusing things for sellers and new buyers is how the City of Wheaton and their contractor Lakeside Recycling Services (LRS) handles weekly garbage and recycling.
Since the rolling carts have their own unique “RFID” tags that generate charges ONLY when they are picked up by the two different trucks on garbage day (currently on Tuesday), the seller has to have their two containers picked up when they sell.
The new owners have to:
(1) sign up with LRS for service;
(2) choose their garbage container size; and
(3) have two new containers (garbage and recycling) dropped off.
LRS uses a private contractor to do this. The “cart exchange” often requires a number of phone calls to LRS - and even contacting the City of Wheaton coordinator directly to get LRS out to accomplish this.
